Brain Gain through Culture?

One of the major questions of European transformation processes is the following: If all of us will have left the province, who is going to stay there and deal with the local challenges? Who will be left to take responsibility for human endeavour and social change? What is the role of the muses for human endeavour and social change in middle size cities within social market economies which could make such cities attractive for the young functional elites, thus enabling them to act socially on a level beyond hard factors?

Mittelstädte und Kultur

Sachsens Metropolen Dresden und Leipzig haben nach 20 Jahren einer Förderung der sogenannten Wachstumskerne einen eklatanten Überschuss gegenüber Sachsens Mittelstädten erreicht. Der Jugendüberschuss beträgt 50%, der Finanzkraftüberschuss 52%, der Elitenüberschuss 100%. Die Mittelstädte leisteten keinen hinreichenden Beitrag zur nachhaltigen Erstarkung des Freistaates Sachsen auch in seiner Fläche. Können Kunst und Kultur dem entgegenwirken?
